Introducing Mizaic’s newly instated chief product officer, Parita Patel Lad. With a background rooted in real-world data solutions, Parita joins the business at a pivotal time for digital transformation in the NHS.
Here, she highlights exactly why data is the foundation for driving change and discusses how the involvement of NHS stakeholders is critical to shaping a product roadmap that addresses real-world needs.
What drew you to join the team at Mizaic, and how do you see your role contributing to the digital transformation of the NHS?
What really drew me to Mizaic was the chance to be part of something that’s making a real difference in the NHS. Digital transformation in UK healthcare has been talked about for as long as I can remember, but now – especially off the back of the Darzi report – it feels like there’s real momentum behind it. Mizaic is in such a strong position to support that shift, and I knew I wanted to be part of the team driving it forward.
On a personal level, my background in real-world data solutions made the opportunity even more exciting. I’ve spent the last 15 years working in healthcare and life sciences. During that time, I’ve been involved with large databases, analytics platforms, workflow-based tools, and clinician-facing apps – all with data at their core. And I could see how much value MediViewer could bring – not just at the point of care for clinicians, but also for research, service evaluations, and many other use cases.
It’s exciting to think about how we can harness that potential to help the NHS improve patient outcomes and work smarter, and I’m thrilled to play a role in making that happen.
What is your vision for the product development strategy at Mizaic, and how will it directly benefit NHS customers in their day-to-day operations?
My vision for product development at Mizaic revolves around a few key streams.
Starting with the data, it’s the foundation for driving change and making informed decisions. Our goal is to help NHS users seamlessly find, digest, and make sense of the information they need – especially at the point of care, where every second counts. Whether it’s surfacing key patient insights or pulling metrics for service evaluations, we want to ensure the data is actionable and valuable.
A big part of this vision is supporting a more connected and integrated NHS. That means enabling clinicians to securely share patient records and working towards reducing the reliance on multiple systems for different tasks.
Finally, and linked to this is maximising technology to tackle inefficiencies in clinical and operational workflows. By streamlining processes, we can help protect NHS time and, most importantly, improve patient outcomes.
How do you plan to involve NHS stakeholders, such as clinicians and medical records managers, in shaping the product roadmap to address real-world needs?
Involving NHS stakeholders, like clinicians, medical records managers, and data science teams is central to how we shape the product roadmap at Mizaic. Across the organisation, we’ve built strong relationships and regular touchpoints with the Trusts we support. These connections allow us to truly understand the challenges our users face and identify opportunities to do more for them.
Within the product team, engaging directly with end users is part of our everyday work. Whether it’s validating new ideas, gathering feedback on design prototypes, or testing a proof of concept, we want to make sure every investment in product development directly benefits our users and solves real-world needs.
We also lean into other forums for input. For example, our clinical advisory group (CAG) is a key starting point for brainstorming new ideas, and we’re always looking to grow this group. Plus, our annual user group events are a great opportunity to dive into specific product ideas and take a step back to understand the wider challenges and priorities Trusts are facing.
We have an open-door policy and actively encourage feedback – whether through direct conversations or our formal feedback processes. What Mizaic already has in place is fantastic, but we’re committed to enhancing our offering to ensure it continues to meet the needs of all users.
And if you’re a clinician, we’d love for you to join our advisory group or attend our in-person events – we want to work collaboratively with you to make a real difference.
What are the most important priorities you’ll be focusing on in the coming months, and how do these align with the challenges NHS Trusts are facing today?
In the coming months, my priorities will focus on helping NHS Trusts make better use of their data. This means enabling clinicians to quickly find and digest critical information at the point of care, supporting integrated systems to reduce reliance on multiple platforms, and using technology to streamline workflows and save valuable time. These align closely with the challenges Trusts face today – such as improving efficiency, enhancing patient outcomes, and building a more connected NHS.
What can NHS stakeholders look forward to in 2025 from Mizaic’s products?
NHS stakeholders can expect some exciting developments from Mizaic in 2025. We’re focusing heavily on product initiatives driven by AI and automation, including intelligent search, which aims to help users find related terms in patient records, and a new patient summary view that condenses key information at a glance for clinicians.
We’re also launching several workflow-focused solutions. Our new Access Request Manager (ARM) module is designed to streamline and automate the way Trusts manage their access requests. This is an exciting new development we’ll be introducing in full in early 2025 and will have a huge impact on SAR and medical record teams whilst helping Trusts to manage regulatory requirements. We’re also piloting further automation features for referral management.
MediViewer will continue to evolve based on user feedback, with updates like support for video and audio uploads and improved photography tools.
Finally, we’re incorporating the FHIR API to support shared care records, furthering our mission to create a more connected and efficient NHS.
There’s a lot to look forward to, and we’re excited to share more with our users soon.
What is one message you’d like to share with NHS Trusts about the value Mizaic will deliver under your leadership?
Mizaic is so much more than a typical EDMS provider. MediViewer goes beyond that by helping NHS Trusts strategically implement the system and ensuring users extract real, day-to-day value from it as part of the patient journey.
Our focus is on transforming and improving the clinician : patient experience, making MediViewer a vital tool in delivering better care and operational efficiency.
